Yvonne Smith
It is with great sadness that we announce the loss of our beloved wife and mother, Yvonne Dove Smith, 94, of Beaumont, TX. She passed away peacefully in the very early hours on December 4, 2022. The world has lost a wonderful woman and she will be truly missed.
Funeral services will be at 2:00PM, Thursday, December 8, 2022, at Claybar Kelley-Watkins Funeral Home in Beaumont, TX. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Beaumont, TX.
Visitation will be from 5:00PM to 7:00PM, Wednesday, at Claybar Kelley-Watkins Funeral Home in Beaumont, TX.
Born in Amarillo, TX, on July 13, 1928, she was the daughter of William Drew Dixon and Alameda Blanche Crowson Dixon. Yvonne was raised in the panhandle of Texas and was the granddaughter of Billy Dixon, frontiersman and hero of the Battle of Adobe Walls. At the age of 15, in Borger, TX, She met the love of her life Winfred Smith when he was on leave with a friend from the naval base in Corpus Christie. It was love at first sight. They married on January 1st, 1945 at the ages of 16 and 21.
After WWII they eventually settled in the north end of Beaumont where they raised their two children and had many friends. Yvonne was a wonderful homemaker and an awesome cook. She was incredibly beautiful inside and out. To her grandchildren, she was Nana, and shared her unconditional love. She was always there to take care of them and give them support.
She was preceded in death by her father William D. Dixon of Amarillo TX, her mother Alameda Dixon of Borger TX, and her brother William D. Dixon of Fort Walton Beach, FL.
She is survived by her husband of almost 78 years Winfred R. Smith; her daughter Paula Baxter and husband Jim, son Kenneth Smith and wife Andi, grandchildren Melissa Gutierrez and husband Victor, Paige Talbert, Logan Talbert and wife Caitlin, Jimmy Baxter and wife Nichole, Kevin Garrett and wife Holly, Breanna Fischer and husband Brodie, Chance Whitmer, niece Caroline T. Dixon, nephew William D. Dixon III, both of Fort Walton Beach, FL., and a host of other family members and great friends.
Serving as pallbearers will be Logan Talbert, Kevin Garrett, Chance Whitmer, Victor Gutierrez, Brodie Fischer, and Colton Weaver. Honorary pallbearer is Jimmy Baxter.
