Alice Zuella Wooten

September 11, 1935 — May 19, 2014

Alice Wooten, age 78, passed away on Monday, May 19, 2014. She spent the last week of her life at home, with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, her sisters, and other members of her extended family. She was, once again, in a house full of kids. She was surrounded by love.
Alice was born on September 11, 1935 and since 2001, she fretted that people would forever associate her birthday with the tragic events of 9-11. She was a South Park High School Greenie and on her birthday in 1951, at the age of 16, she married L.C. Wooten, Jr.
Alice worked for years as a stay-at-home Mom, baby-sitter, Sunday School teacher, home health care worker and taxi service. In the early 70's she began to work for wages. She worked for a number of employers over the years, including Servo-Mation at the paper mill in Evadale, Prince Hall Villa in Silsbee, Steinhagen Oil and other convenience stores in Vidor, Beaumont, Kountze and Lumberton. She will be remembered and missed by many.
She is survived by her favorite children, Linda Wooten of Silsbee; Jimmy Wooten and his wife Frances Earline of Kountze; Frances Kendall and her husband Greg of Gilmer, Texas; Thomas Wooten of Vidor; and Laura Bowman and her husband Allen of Silsbee. She was Granny to 10 favorite grandchildren (Jennifer Wooten, Alice Hollyfield, Heather McDaniel, Dr. Jadrian Wooten, Clayton Wooten, Casey Kendall Butler, Jimmy Kendall, Amanda Kendall, Chelsea Bowman Graves, and Zach Bowman.) and 21 favorite great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her loving sisters, Gloria Riggs of Lumberton and Trudy Matus of Seymour, Texas. She was preceded in death by her husband L.C. and her grandson Jimmy.
Alice was a devout Christian woman, a Baptist all her life, and most recently a member of Friendship Baptist Church in Beaumont. A memorial service will be held at the Claybar Funeral Home on 11th Street in Beaumont, May 21, 2014 at 3:00 p.m.
The family offers its sincere gratitude and appreciation to Harbor Hospice. Alice was an avid supporter of the March of Dimes and the Muscular Dystrophy Association. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to one of these organizations.
