Alton Easley Owen, 78, of Mauriceville, died November 3, 2010, at the Meadows Nursing Home in Orange.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 9, 2010, at Fellowship Church of Christ, 3800 Martin Luther King Dr., in Orange.

A graveside service will follow at 2:30 p.m., at Welcome Cemetery in Simpson, Louisiana. Officiating will be Tommy Gore, pastor of Fellowship Church of Christ.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. on Monday, at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange.

Alton was born on March 9, 1932, in Nathalie, Virginia to John T. and Emma Owen.

After graduating high school in Volens, Virginia in 1951, Alton joined the Navy where he was stationed in Orange. In 1956, he began his career at DuPont's Sabine River Works as a Process Operator until his retirement in 1985. He was a resident of Mauriceville for over 50 years and was a charter member of Fellowship Church of Christ. He enjoyed restoring antique cars and trucks, shrimping and gardening.

Alton was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Viva, in 2007, and by six of his eight siblings: Monroe, Edgar and Edison Owen, Elsie Owen, Eunice Hunt and Lilly Herron.

He is survived by his son, Todd Owen and his wife, Debbie of Albuquerque, New Mexico; daughter, Johanna Taggart and her husband, Bob of Fort Worth; grandchildren, Rebecca Evans and her husband, Jeremy, Kyle Owen, Logan Avant, Joshua Halter and Ross Halter; brothers, John T. and Elwood Owen of Virginia; and many nephews and nieces.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Arms of Hope formerly Medina Children's Home 21300 State Hwy 16 N, Medina, Texas 78055.
