Alvin Joseph Dischler, 78, of Orange, TX died September 28, 2008, at Harbor Hospital in Orange.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, October 3, 2008, at 10:30 a.m. at the Saint Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. Reverend Tom Phelan will be officiant.
Entombment will be at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Orange.
Visitation will be at Claybar Funeral Home's temporary site at the former Park Avenue Methodist Church at 1408 Park Ave. in Orange, Thursday from 5 until 9 p.m. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m.
Mr. Dischler was born November 27, 1929, in Crowley, LA and worked as an electrician for Gulf/Chevron for 35 years. He also served in the United States Air Force.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Theresa Dischler, his parents, Charles and Clara Olinger Dischler, his sister Barbara Reed, his brother Robert Dischler, and his granddaughter Kaci Lynn Dischler.
Survivors are his four children, Stephen Dischler and wife Kelly of Orange, Jennifer Bennefield and husband Mike of Colorado, Dean Dischler of Colorado, and Janet Manuel and husband William "Beaver" of Orange. He leaves seven grandchildren, Jacob and Brandon Bennefield, Kyle, Zachary, and Cameron Dischler, and Kayla and Lyndie Manuel; brothers and sisters Charles Dischler, Cecilia Landry, Julia Thompson, Clarice Stewart, Fredinand Dischler, Thomas Dischler, Marjorie Walker, Michael Dischler, and Carol Leonards, all of Louisiana.
Serving as pallbearers will be Ferdinand Dischler, Thomas Dischler, Michael Dischler, Lawrence Leonards, Ron Dischler and Jeep Colburn.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Jacob Bennefield, Brandon Bennefield, Zachary Dischler and Cameron Dischler.
The family would like to thank the staff of Texas Total Care and the doctors at the Ben and Julie Rogers Cancer Institute for their care.
