Abby Abrego, 88, of Orange Texas, passed away on May 17, 2019 at her home in Orange Texas.
A graveside service will be held at 5:00 p.m., Friday, May 24, 2019, at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery in Orange. Officiating will be Reverend Mr. Melvin Payne of St. Mary Catholic Church in Orange.
Born in Orange, Texas on February 3, 1931, she was the daughter of Francisco Abrego and Pueblita Gutierrez. Abby was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church throughout her years. Abby worked at Little Mexico Restaurant before retiring as a clerk with Perry Brothers. Abby was a hard worker her whole life. Known as the ‘Tamale Queen’, Abby loved to cook and was famous for her delicious homemade tamales and enchiladas. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
She was preceded in death by her parents Francisco and Pueblita Abrego, Orange; sisters, Mary Pachuca, Connie Sanchez, and Ruby Denman; and brother, Victor Abrego.
She is survived by her siblings Amelia Lugo of San Bernardino, California, Frank Abrego and spouse Myrtis of Port Neches, Delia Villarreal of Houston, Jane Carmack of Houston, Siguel Abrego of Orange and several nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
The family would like to thank Riceland Hospice personnel for their kind and compassionate care of Abby in her last days. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St Mary’s Catholic Church.
