Funeral services for Annie Lee Knox, 89, of Beaumont, will be at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 30, 2007 at Claybar Kelley-Watkins Funeral Home with burial following in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
Visitation will be from 4:00-6:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
Miss Knox was born to Mr. And Mrs. R.E. Knox in Junction, Texas, on July 6, 1918. She has lived in Beaumont since 1954.
She was a retired school teacher. She taught 41 years. She started teaching in Mansfield High School in January 1940, and ended her teaching at French High School in 1980. She taught business subjects ? shorthand, typing, secretarial practice, and VOE lab.
Miss Knox taught in Mansfield, Texas, for three years, in Henderson, Texas, five years, in Texas Weslyan College in Fort Worth, seven years, and at French High School for twenty-six years. In 1958, she organized and sponsored the National Honor Society at French High School.
Annie graduated from high school at Buckner Orphans Home in Dallas. She got her BS from North Texas University in Denton, and her MBA from the University of Denver. She attended a number of summer workshops at the University of Texas University of Houston, North Texas State University, and University of Denver.
Miss Knox was very active in Texas Business Education Association. She served as historian, reporter, and recording secretary during her active years. In 1980, she was honored as the Outstanding Secondary Business Education teacher of the state by TBEA. In 1975, Miss Knox was one of four thousand teachers listed in the book of Outstanding Secondary Educators of America.
She was very active in ETA Nu Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Society starting in 1965. She served as president, treasurer, and many other jobs. She was also active in the Sarah Sunday School class at First Baptist Church.
Miss Knox is survived by four nephews and their families; John E. Mitchell of Kirbyville, Texas, Charles Mitchell of Fayetteville, Arkansas, Joe Mitchell of Yuma, Arizona, and Robin Lawrence of Mentello, Nevada. She is also survived by a host of friends and former students.
