Barbara George Riddick, 79, of Orange, Texas, passed away on March 9, 2015, at her home.

Funeral services will be 2:00 pm, Thursday, March 12, at First United Methodist Church in Orange. Officiating will be Pastor John Warren and assisting will be, Mr. Doug Rogers. Burial will follow at Orange Forest Lawn Cemetery in Orange.

Visitation will be from 5-8 pm, Wednesday at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange.

Born in Beaumont, on April 2, 1935, she was the daughter, of Hebert and Faye Moncrief. After graduating from Beaumont High School in 1953, she entered Mary Hardin-Baylor College to complete her Bachelor’s Degree in Education and married the love of her life and high school sweetheart, Bryan Moreland George.

She has been a lifelong educator and member of Beta Sigma Phi and Delta Kappa Gamma. Her teaching career began at Beaumont I.S.D. and several years later she joined Bridge City I.S.D. teaching Remedial Reading and English as a second language. Barbara received her Master’s Degree through Lamar University in Beaumont alongside her longtime friends, Jean Knipp and Lenora George.

She later became an educational counselor for students in Klein, Angleton, Lumberton, Liberty and WO-Stark Schools. She retired from WOS in 1995.

She has served on many boards, including Travelers, Orange Christian Services, Service League of Orange, Orange Community Players, Women’s Golf Association – Sunset Grove CC and at First Methodist Church of Orange, including Rita Recovery.

Barbara's greatest goal in life was to be a servant disciple of the Lord Jesus in her community and within her family. She had been a member of the First Baptist and First Methodist Churches of Orange.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Bryan Moreland George and Frank Riddick, and her brother-in-law Jack Munson.

She is survived by her daughter, Sherry Overbeck and husband, Jody of The Woodlands; her son, Gerald George and wife, Sabrina of Orange; grandchildren, Jenna and Madison Overbeck and Lyndsey and Bryan George; siblings, Lyndall Munson of Beaumont, Billy Moncrief and wife, Allene, Laird Moncrief and wife, Carolyn, and Rita Read and husband, Arden; and her sister-in-law, Ethelyn George Jenkins.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Orange Christian Services at 2518 West Park Avenue, Orange, Texas 77630 and also to the “Feed My Sheep” Program at First United Methodist Church at 502 N. 6th St Orange, Texas 77630.
