Beatrice Jett Goode, a devoted wife, mother, daughter, and sister, died August 17th at the age of 87.
Bea met her husband, Charles Frank C. F. Goode, through her friendship with his sister, Betsy Goode. C. F. and Bea were married on June 22, 1945, in Beaumont and were married for 58 years before his death in January 2004. They were longtime members of St. Paul's Methodist Church in South Park. Bea joined the church when she was 19 and had many friends in the Rebekah Sunday School class.
She was born to Ella Lois Martindale and William Hamilton Jett on March 12, 1922, in Jasper, Texas. She graduated from Jasper High School. She was very proud that she earned her certification from Business College. She worked for American National Insurance Company in Galveston, worked in retail sales in Beaumont for the Fair Store in her earlier days; later at Newberry's in sales and as Manager of the Millinery department. She was also an Avon representative for many years.
Bea loved to dress up, she loved to laugh, and she was known as a great dancer in her time.
Bea is survived by her son Charles Frank Goode, Jr., and wife, Diane, of Grapeland, Texas; her son William Robert Goode of Beaumont; and sister-in-law Betsy Goode Saide of Port Arthur. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sisters Loree Walker Hicks Tucker and Bennett Lois "Sweetie" Walker Thurman of Beaumont.
Bea Goode's long life was due to her faith and her strong will to survive various medical problems. It was also due to her luck in finding good family doctors, surgeons and caregivers. That family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Gary Clayton for his kindness in caring for her through the years. -- We'd also like to thank the caregivers who came into our home, the nurses at Secure Home Health and the staff and nurses at Harbor Hospice.
Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, August 20, 2009 at Claybar Kelley-Watkins Funeral Home.
A gathering of family and friends will be Wednesday from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
