Bernard Lynd

October 14, 1938 — June 22, 2022

Bernard Lynd
Bernard Lynd passed away on Wednesday, June 22, 2022, at the age of 83 years. He was born October 14, 1938, in Port Arthur, Texas, to Barney Sinclair Lynd and Eunice Stout Lynd. After attending Thomas Jefferson High School, he served honorably in the United States Army. In 1967, he married Kay Annette Dillard, and the two settled in Beaumont, where they spent 48 inseparable years until her death in 2015.

Bernard worked many years as a custom picture framer for Beaumont’s House of Art. In 1976, he began a 33-year career at Market Basket Foods, most notably as Produce Manager. This dedication saw him serve in almost every Market Basket location in southeast Texas. His creative personality shined there, from regular workaday duties to the creation of beautiful, specialized displays of flowers, fruits, and vegetables. He loved chatting and laughing with his customers, vendors, and co-workers.An avid painter and draftsman, Bernard was a skillful artist who sought beauty in details all around him. His paintings won ribbons in many local shows. He dabbled in art of all forms, including batik, stained glass, and calligraphy, but drawing and painting were his best-loved expressions, as seen in the many portraits, landscapes, and sketches he leaves behind. Teaching and encouraging others how to draw and paint came naturally to him, and his artistic talent lives on among those who were fortunate enough to learn from him.Bernard was a walking wit with genuine personality. If there was a pun to be made, a joke to be told, or something silly to be said, chances are, he was saying it. He never missed an opportunity to bring cheer to one’s day, giving freely of his spontaneous joy and wordplay, even to complete strangers. Ever musical, he readily had a tune to sing or some bars to hum, accompanied by his happy hands snapping, clapping, or drumming. His humor, in harmony with his heart, manifested in him a lasting legacy: that of a loving husband, father, Pops, brother, uncle, and friend.

Bernard is survived by his daughter Debra Pearson, her husband Jarrod, grandchildren: Stella, Chloe and fiancé Michael Schneider, Otto, and Vera; son Steve Lynd, his wife Marcie, and grandchildren: Orion and special friend Shea Pitre, Lucas, and Kharissa; sisters Eunice Walden, Dorothy Roddam, Patricia Bell, Daisy Taylor and husband Fred; brothers Pete Lynd and wife Shirley, and Dan Lynd; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Barney S. Lynd and Eunice Stout Lynd, by his loving wife Kay Dillard Lynd, and by brothers Arthur Lynd and James Lynd.

A gathering of Bernard’s family and friends will be held at Claybar Kelly-Watkins Funeral Home, 1155 North Eleventh Street in Beaumont, Texas, on July 2, 2022, beginning at 9:00 AM with services at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Beaumont.
