Funeral services for Betty Hester Modica, 82, will be held on Monday, October 6, 2008, at 1:00 p.m. in the Claybar Kelley-Watkins Funeral Home Chapel. Pastor Reggie Lloyd of Praise Christian Church will officiate. Interment will follow in the Forest Lawn Memorial Park. A gathering of family and friends will be held on Sunday from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Mrs. Modica, a former resident of Beaumont for over 60 years, passed away on September 30, 2008 in Sour Lake. She was born on September 16, 1926 in Sherman, TX to Willie and Bertie Clea Hester.
Mrs. Modica was a loving, compassionate humanitarian. Her most memorable characteristic was her strong faith in God. She will be remembered by many for her work feeding the homeless through the Praise Christian Center in Beaumont. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Baptist Modica, daughter, Joan E. Modica, her parents, granddaughter, Dana Brown, sister, Billie Jean Reynolds, brother, James Hester, and great granddaughter, Kylie Modica. Those left to cherish her memory are sons, Sam Modica and wife, Channie, of Dallas and Pete Modica of Grayling, MI; daughters, Janet Schroeder and husband, Bubba, of Sour Lake and Regina Anderson and husband, Bill, of Sour Lake; 13 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren; 1 great great-granddaughter; brother, Andrew Hester and wife, Joan, sisters, Fleta Duncan and husband, David, Doris Smith, Juanita Wood and daughter by choice, Carroll Wakely.
The family extends a special, heartfelt thanks to Hotel Beaumont, Texas Home Health Hospice and especially to Lori Samuel, Trenda Holmes, and Kristina Reeher.
