Betty Jean Martin
Betty Jean Martin, 83, of Orangefield, Texas, passed away on April 7, 2018, in Orangefield.
A memorial gathering will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 11, 2018, at Claybar Funeral Home in Bridge City.
A memorial service will be held at Weeks Chapel Cemetery at a later date.
Born in San Augustine County, on July 22, 1934, she was the daughter of Aaron Eston Phelps and Minnie Miller Phelps. Betty taught second grade at Orangefield Elementary School for 20 years. She enjoyed making her own candy and spending time with her family. She was an extraordinary mother who took care of many grandchildren over the years. She will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Aaron and Minnie Phelps; loving husband, Robert Martin; grandson, Jayson Roberts; and her brother, Wendol Phelps.
Betty is survived by her children, Jackie Roberts and husband George, of Orangefield, TX, Johnny Martin and wife Hollie, of Bridge City, TX, George Robert Martin, of Jasper, TX, and Eston Martin, of Orangefield, TX; grandchildren, Crystal Herrera and husband Josh, Justin Roberts, Kari Shelhammer and husband Robert, John Robert Martin, and Gracie Martin; 3 great-grandchildren; and her brothers, Cleaburn Phelps, of Jasper, TX, Thomas Phelps, of Vidor, TX, Guvie Miller and wife Gay, of Brookland, TX, and Curtis Miller and wife Paula, of Lufkin, TX.
