Betty Jean Worthen

1948 ∼ 2023

Betty Jean Worthen, 75, of Deweyville, Texas, was called to her heavenly home, surrounded by her loved ones, on the morning October 7, 2023. She fought her battle against Pancreatic cancer with dignity, grace, and strength all while knowing she would win the fight, and she did. She left this earth peacefully and was, without a doubt, met at Heaven’s gates by the love of her life, Geland.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 11, 2023, at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange. Officiating will be Reverend Brad Bickham. Burial will follow at Orange Forest Lawn in Orange, Texas.

Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 10, 2023, at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange.

Born in Orange, Texas on March 6, 1948, she was the daughter of M.E. Reider and Marie Curry-Milam. Betty was the glue of her family and always put the needs of others before herself. Anyone who knew Betty knew the she loved Jesus and that she was going to tell you the truth whether you wanted to hear it or not. Her favorite thing to do was spend time with her family, whom she affectionately called “her people”. Her greatest achievement, and what she would describe as her legacy, was her children. Being a mother and a “Mawmaw” to her grandchildren was her greatest joy. When she was taking a break from her matriarchal duties you could find her shopping at JCPenney or “shopping” at the casino. She was also a very talented seamstress and, in her younger years, she sewed beautiful clothes for her sisters and daughters along with various other handmade creations.

She is preceded in death by her parents, M.E. Reider and Marie Curry-Milam, her brother, Bobby Reider; her husband, Geland Worthen.

She is survived by her children, Monica Smith and husband, Luke, Jimmy Owens and wife, Kirsten, Bryan Worthen and wife, Erin, and Lydia Worthen; her grandchildren, Jacie Hyatt, Brooke Smith, Reyna Owens, Brianna and Emily Worthen, Garin Broussard, Chase Baez, and Daisy and Bogart Menie.; her great-grandchildren, Kylor Hyatt, Creed Hyatt, Kohen Hyatt, and Walker McNabb; her siblings, Mary Ann Maher and husband, Jim, Linda Langston and husband Ronnie, Billy Reider and wife, “Punkin” , Donnie Reider and wife, Carrie, Barbara Hoffpauir and husband, James; Debby Smith, and Tammy Dorman; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and other loving family members and friends.

Serving as pallbearers will be Luke Smith, Jeremy Way, Bobby Glenn Reider, Wendell Hyatt, Brett Reider, and Spencer Bonura. Honorary pallbearers are Kylor Hyatt and Garin Broussard.
