Brooks loved his family, friends and football. You could always find him on his back patio flipping channels between football games and horse racing. Brooks played football from 7th grade until his senior year of high school. He was a 1986 graduate from West Brook High School, where he played football as a wide receiver. He continued to play football for Texas State University one year before an injury. He then returned to Beaumont and graduated from Lamar University, where he served as president of the ATO fraternity. Brooks moved to Katy, Texas where he purchased his first home. While there he coached Katy Youth Bucanners for 5 years and played on the Lonestar softball team for almost 6 years. In 2004 he moved to St. Pete, FL, met his wife, Beth during a visit back to Texas, and they married in 2008 in Key West, FL. They moved to the Bradenton/Sarasota area where Brooks coached girls softball at Lakewood Ranch High School from 2006-2007 and coached receivers at Lakewood Ranch High School from 2005-2012. They thoroughly enjoyed their life in Florida and welcomed their two children while there. The family moved back to Texas in 2014 where Brooks became a P.E. and Health teacher at High School for Law and Justice and coached receivers at St. Thomas High School from 2014-2016.

Brooks was well read, well-rounded, and knowledgeable of so much around him…this made him relatable, easy to talk to and loved by all who met and knew him. As a teacher and coach, Brooks was loved, respected and admired. His hard work and joking nature, combined with his desire to help his students and players in any way he knew how, showed he took his professional calling seriously. This carried over into his family life even more so than work. As a devoted husband and father, Brooks took care of his family in every way possible. He made their house a home. He was especially proud of his backyard where there was an open welcoming invite for anyone who was up for a football game, visit or meal. This also provided an area for his son Beau to hang with him and enjoy the outdoors, a garden space for Beth, and a self-made water hose water park, trampoline jumping and ball games for his daughter Jaclyn and anyone else who wanted to join. As a dad and uncle, he took interest in his children's, nieces and nephews lives. If they were interested in a certain hobby, sport, activity, etc. he asked questions, had discussions, made jokes and even attended events for them if possible. They all adored him, and he had a special relationship with each of them. As a brother and son, no matter what, Brooks would drop everything to help his parents and sisters. From moving to family gatherings, holidays and tough times-no matter the circumstances, he always had a kind word, helping hand and unconditional love to share. Family and friends were most important to Brooks, and it was clearly evident in the life he led. He was an inspiration to many and leaves behind many stories to be talked about for years to come.
