Obituary
In Loving Memory of Bruce Powell
Bruce Powell, born on December 11, 1940, entered the presence of his Lord and Savior on July 13, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. He leaves behind a legacy of faith, service, strength, and unconditional love.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 22, 2026, at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange. Burial will follow at Parish Cemetery in Orange.
Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 21, 2026, at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange.
Born in Wiergate, Texas, Bruce was one of twelve children raised on a family farm. In 1957, at 17 years of age, Bruce joined the United States Marine Corps, proudly serving his country and honored to be a veteran. Throughout his life, he carried the values of honor, courage, and commitment that defined his military service. He worked tirelessly with the United Steelworkers (USW) as the local union president for the national association to improve the lives of working people and their families, retiring from American National Can (Rexam) in 2004.
He found joy in the outdoors and could often be found hunting, fishing, or golfing. He had a special love for Okinawa and the Philippines but never lost his affection for his Texas roots. At home in Arizona, some of his happiest moments were watching the elk wander through his yard, sharing stories over a full table of food, enjoying a Keystone beer, and simply being surrounded by the people he loved most.
If there was music playing, Bruce was ready to dance. He had a way of making every gathering feel like home – he never met a stranger. His greatest happiness came from having a house full of family and friends, laughter, conversation, and love. Bruce's life reminds us that true wealth is found not in possessions, but in faith, family, and the memories we create together. His laughter, his dancing, his stories and poems, and his steadfast love will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know him.
He is preceded in death by his parents John Robert and Martha Lucille; brothers and sisters, Helen, Wilbert (Gorilla), Hazel, James, Cecil John, Lois, Ruthie, Adam, Jerry Wayne.
He is survived by his loving wife, Cindy; daughters, Shirina, Shelina, Tina, Tammy (Brian), Heather (Sean), Terri, Pam (Michael); grandchildren, Cassie (Brad), Trevor (Isabelle), Tabatha (Paul), Marty, Mathew, Jordan (Ben), Lauren (Becca), Abby, and Jessica; great granddaughters, Karsyn, Bernadette, Eternity, Evie; great grandsons, Drew and Anderson; brothers, Buddy and Tiger; and numerous beloved nieces and nephews.
Serving as pallbearers will be Greg Arwood, Jack Arwood, Trevor Bix, Henry Gaus, Joe Hudson, Jr, Kerry Reid, Homer Will, and Rusty Williams. Honorary pallbearers are Brother Dave, Fred Mallet, Buddy Powell, Jim Pat (Tiger) Powell, Mark Powell, Mike Powell, Patrick Powell.
