Capt. John A. Coggins of Orange died peacefully at home with his family by his side Saturday, September 19, 2009.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, September 22, 2009 at, Claybar Funeral Home Chapel in Bridge City. Officiating will be Reverend Keith Royal of Winfree Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be 5-8:00 p.m., Monday at Claybar Funeral Home in Bridge City.
John was born on March 26, 1924 in Lynn, Massachusetts. He was the son of Carl and Vivian Strong Coggins. John served in the Navy during WWII, where he received a Purple Heart. He was a member of the Masons, Rotery, and Shriners. He worked as a marine consultant and merchant marine captain. After retirement John volunteered to teach aboard Texas A&M Galveston School ship.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Vivian Coggins; and son Paul Coggins.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Coggins; son, Glenn Coggins of Pensacola, Florida; daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Marlon Rothrock, and Linda and Ron Threatt both of Orange; daughter-in-law, Angel Coggins; grandchildren, Chad Coggins, Craig Coggins, Tina Coggins, Bridget Brack, Casey Thibodeaux, Lacie Weston, Taylor Weston, Nicole Threatt, Kristina Threatt; and eight great-grandchildren.
Serving as pallbearers will be Craig Coggins, Chad Coggins, Taylor Weston, David Roberts, Danny Roberts, and Chris Kite.
Honorary pallbearer will be Chris Brack.
