Charles Doty Tullos, Sr. passed away on April 10, 2008 in Austin, Texas. He was 84 years old.
Charles was born in Beaumont on July 7, 1923 to L. Paul Tullos, Sr. and Ruel Pratt Tullos. He graduated from Beaumont High School and attended the University of Texas at Austin, where he was a member of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity.
Charles enlisted in the United States Navy and fought in the Pacific Theater in World War II and was called to service again during the Korean War. He retired from the Naval Reserves as a Lieutenant. On April 28, 1949, Charles married Jane Ellen Crissey. They made their home in Beaumont and raised three children, Charles Doty, Jr., Mary Ruel, and Kathryn Jane, there. Charles worked in the insurance industry in sales and adjustments. His great pleasure, beside his family, was ham radio, and now W5KPC has gone silent. In later life, he returned to school and earned an associate's degree in electronics from Lamar University.
Charles was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, his brother, L. Paul Tullos, Jr., and his son-in-law, Thomas Andrew Bridwell. He is survived by his three children, his son-in-law, Mark Morris, and his grandchildren, Ellen Maples and husband Jeff and Jane and Mary Morris.
Arrangements are by Claybar Kelley Watkins Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at Magnolia Cemetery in Beaumont on Sunday, April 20, 2008 at 1:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be sent to First United Methodist Church of Beaumont, 701 Calder, Beaumont, TX, 77701.
