What is the definition of a great man?
On Friday, August 2, 2013 a truly great man slipped peacefully from this mortal coil surrounded by those that knew and loved him most. He was not a celebrity, nor did he achieve any sort of recognition or fame with the masses. He produced no revolutionary technology nor did he create any socially impactful programs. If you were not fortunate enough to be counted among his family, friends or loved ones you would likely have never heard his name.
But was he a great man?
Oh yes.
What made him great?
He was a kind and loving husband that seldom raised his voice in anger. Equipped with an incredible dry sense of humor he is one of the few people in this world that could take on his wife, Rainy, and always make sure that they both came out the other end of any conflict with both as winners.
He was a gentle yet firm parent. His kids and grand-kids never had to wonder if they were important to him. That question likely never even entered their minds. He did not need to yell or threaten to influence them, instead he listened and shared and loved.
He was true to his friends - never forgetting who he really was and where he came from. Always willing to listen, lend a hand, tell a story, teach a lesson, and share a laugh.
Chuck Kimbrough will truly be missed, but he will also be remembered - and that with a smile.
