Charles Melvin O’Neal, 91, of Port Arthur, Texas, passed away on September 5, 2019, in Port Arthur.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, September 12, 2019, at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange, Texas. Officiating will be Brother Mike Rhodes and Brother Pat Young. Burial will follow at Orange Forest Lawn in West Orange, Texas.
Visitation will be prior to the service, beginning at 12:30 p.m., at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange.
Born in Woodville, Alabama, on August 8, 1928, he was the son of Samuel Houston O’Neal and Ellen Leona (Curbow) O’Neal. Charles proudly served his country in the United States Air Force for 7 years. He went on to work as a clerk for the United States Postal Service for many years. Charles was a proud father, uncle, and friend. He loved to be outdoors, especially at the beach. Charles enjoyed picking up seashells and sunning. He also enjoyed playing dominoes with his friends at Rose Place. Charles was a fantastic cook and referred to himself as a “foodie.” He will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing and loving him.
He was preceded in death by his son, Charles Marcus O’Neal and his mother, Mary O’Neal; his parents, Samuel and Ellen O’Neal; his niece, Monica O’Neal Davis; his siblings, David O’Neal, Arthur O’Neal, Clyde O’Neal, Ruby Stewart, Samuel Floyd O’Neal, Ivella Crumbly, Herbert O’Neal, Annie Pockrus, Houston O’Neal, and James O’Neal; and many others who have gone before him.
He is survived by his nieces and nephews, Greg O’Neal and wife Shelly of Parker Colorado, Dianne O’Neal Rollin and husband Carl of Frisco, and Dicky O’Neal of Orange; and many other nieces, nephews, cousins, great-nieces and great-nephews.
