Charles Richard “Dickie” Uzzle, 81, of Bridge City, Texas, passed away on June 29, 2025, peacefully at his home in Bridge City.
Graveside services will be 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 2, 2025, at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Orange. Officiating will be Randy Redkey.
Born in Orange, Texas, on September 28, 1943, he was the son of Willard Harold Uzzle and Elizabeth Watkins Uzzle. Following his graduation from Lutcher Stark High School in 1961, he pursued higher education, initially attending Blinn Junior College on a track scholarship for Javelin and later continuing his studies at Lamar University. Dickie’s legacy in our nation’s service began when he enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1966. He served six years and rose to the rank as a Sergeant during the Vietnam War. He demonstrated valor and commitment, earning respect and admiration before his honorable discharge in 1972. He dedicated 28 years of professional life at DuPont, where he worked diligently until his retirement on January 1, 2008. However, it was his exceptional commitment to community service that truly defined him. For 14 years, he served with distinction as a member of the Bridge City Volunteer Fire and Rescue. On January 4, 2008, he was sworn in as “Chief,” leading a determined team of 40 members with unmatched zeal and responsibility. Dickie’s zest for life extended far beyond his career and civic duties. He cherished every moment spent traveling to Red River, New Mexico, and Mustang Island, with his wife, Ammie, where he found solace in nature. Known for always carrying his flashlight and pocket gadgets, his quick wit and love for humorous sayings brought joy to those around him. A devoted reader, Dickie had a special fondness for Western novels and revered the great writers of the genre. His love for the Lord was always evident, grounding him in his values and beliefs. He also enjoyed the great outdoors, often embarking on adventures that allowed him to hunt and fish. An enthusiastic supporter of President Trump, Dickie actively voiced his hope for the country's future direction. Charles Richard "Dickie" Uzzle leaves behind a legacy of service, humor, and unwavering devotion to both God and country. His impact on his community, family, and friends will be remembered fondly by all who were fortunate enough to know him.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Willard and Elizabeth Uzzle; his brother, Willard Harold Uzzle, Jr.; his sisters, Rosie, and Janice; and his daughter, Amanda Uzzle.
He is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Ammie Trahan Uzzle; his children, Tammy Cunnigham and husband, Darrell, Joseph Earl Trahan III and wife, Janie, and Cindy Lynn Tolar and husband, Dwayne; his grandchildren, Kallie Kotlarz, Molly James, Kade Tolar, and wife Chelsea, and Kara Trahan; his great-grandchild, Ava Kotlarz; his fur baby dog, “Queenie”; and numerous other loving family members and friends.
Serving as pallbearers will be Kade, Darrell, Kenny, Dwayne, Earl, and Riley.
