Charlie Weldon McClain, 81, of Orange, Texas died Sunday, September 19, 2010, at his home.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 22, 2010, at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange. Officiating will be Reverend Jeff Bell, Chaplain of Southeast Texas Hospice. Burial will follow at Linscomb Cemetery in Orange.

Visitation will be from 5:30-8:00 p.m., Tuesday at the funeral home.

Born in Hartburg, Texas on November 21, 1928, Charlie was the son of Martha Smith and Press McClain. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and worked as a truck driver for Chemical Express until his retirement in 1993. He loved his family and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Clark McClain and Clinton McClain; and sisters, Vie Drake, Donna Watz, Shug McClain, and Hazel Sullivan.

Charlie is survived by his wife of 50 years, Ruby Jean McClain; daughter and son-in-law, Billie Jean and Francis Tucker of Orange; grandchildren, Tammy Tomplait and husband Todd of Orange, Darlene McPherson and husband Kenneth of Orange, Troy Tucker and wife Kim of Bridge City; great-grandchildren, Brandon Tomplait, Derrick Tomplait, Tara McPherson, and Owen Tucker; and great-great-grandchild, Macie Myers.

Serving as Pallbearers will be Todd Tomplait, Kenneth McPherson, Brandon Tomplait, Troy Tucker, Francis Tucker, and Derrick Tomplait.

The family would like to express their appreciation to Southeast Texas Hospice for their care during Mr. McClain's illness.
