Connie K. Stewart, 58, of Hemphill, Texas and formerly of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Wednesday, September 29, 2010, in Houston, Texas.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, October 9, 2010, at Claybar Funeral Home Chapel in Bridge City, Texas. Officiating will be Reverend Mike Umbenhaur of First Presbyterian Church in Orange. A meal will follow at Tequila's restaurant in Bridge City.
Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m., prior to the service.
Born in Burlington, Iowa on June 23, 1952, Connie was preceded in death by her parents, Elizabeth and Clarence Stewart, of Wever, Iowa; sister, Rachel Stewart; and brother, Bob Stewart. She graduated from Fort Madison, Iowa High School and Mount Mercy College, Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Connie retired from the Iowa Department of Corrections in Cedar Rapids in 2003, where she was active in the Eastern Star, president of the Jaycees, and a board member of the History Center and Planned Parenthood.
Connie is survived by her husband, Charles Ray "Chuck" Russell of Hemphill, Texas; son, Chuck Russell, Jr. and wife Ginger of Santa Fe, New Mexico; sister, Robin Lee of Houston, Texas; mother-in-law, Earline Russell; sister-in-law, Carol Smith; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
