Cornelia Nelson

Cornelia Nelson died April 16, 2008 at Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital. Cornelia was born March 2, 1913 in Galveston, Texas to Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Nelson. She was five years old when the family moved to Beaumont. She graduated from Beaumont High School and Lamar Junior College.
Cornelia was employed by the Employee Co-op Store, which was a part of Magnolia Petroleum Refinery, as a secretary and later as a bookkeeper. When the store was closed, she was employed by a CPA firm and continued working for CPA firms as secretary and bookkeeper until she retired in July, 1983
She had been an active member of Westminster Presbyterian Church since childhood, teaching in the Kindergarten Department of Sunday School for many years, member of the choir, elder and deacon of the session and leader in the Women's Work.
Cornelia was honored for 50 years in the Pilot Club, having served in all phases of the club activities, including president. She volunteered at Some Other Place, a mission project of Westminster Church, each month, serving dinner.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Disa Marie and niece, Joy Nelson. She is survived by her sister, Selma and brother, Ellis and his wife Nancy; niece Karin McAnlis and her husband Jack and their children, Nancy, Jan, and Carolyn; and nephew Ellis Stark Nelson and his wife Ronnee and their son, Brian.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Claybar Kelley-Watkins Funeral Home. On Saturday, April 19, 2008, graveside services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. at Magnolia Cemetery, followed by a Memorial Service at 3:00 p.m. at the Westminster Presbyterian Church with Rev. Carol Tompkins officiating. Visitation will follow the memorial service in the fellowship hall at Westminster Church.
