Dale Arthur Huston

Dale Arthur Huston of Beaumont, Texas, passed away on April 22, 2024 at Baptist Hospital at the age of 87.

Born and raised in Akron, Ohio, on January 26, 1937, he was the son of Ralph Huston and Carrie Reifsnyder Huston. He attended Cuyahoga Falls High School, where he was a standout athlete excelling on the football field. His commitment to excellence earned Dale a full athletic scholarship to Bowling Green State University. It was at Bowling Green State where he obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in Education and Physical Education with a minor in Biology, setting the stage for his impactful career ahead.

Dale's legacy lies in his role as a beloved teacher and championship wrestling coach. He was known for his dedication to his students both in the classroom and beyond the school grounds throughout the entire Coventry School District. As a coach - be it wrestling or football, he led by example with such passion and courage that even today, he is considered a legend to all who knew him. He was an avid fan of Ohio State University sports, embodying true Buckeye spirit throughout his life.

Dale Huston was so much more than a teacher and a coach. He was quick witted and devilishly handsome. He was a loyal friend. He was simply well liked by all who knew him. During the course of his life, he held many jobs which he always performed with a work ethic second to none. He took none more seriously than that of husband and father.

Among Dale's greatest joys was the love he shared with his lifelong sweetheart, Judy. Their bond was strengthened through the years as they embarked on the journey of marriage and parenthood together.

Family meant everything to Dale - it was the cornerstone of his happiness. His boys held a special place in his heart, and he took immense pride in watching them grow into fine young men. Dale's love for his family knew no bounds; it was evident in every moment he shared with them.

He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Carrie Huston; his sisters, Jane Huston Porter and Doris Huston; and his brother, Rick Huston.

He is survived by his adoring wife of 63 years, Judith “Judy” Huston; his sons, Scott Huston and wife, Kelly Blust Huston, and Matthew Huston and wife, Vineen Giordano; his grandchildren, Taylor VanderWerff, and Brett Huston; along with a host of loving family members, friends, former students and athletes.

Cremation held under the direction of Claybar Funeral Home in Orange.

I’m sorry to hear the loss of such a great teacher and coach. I was thinking of him not so long ago, thinking of my Coventry years and he always comes to mind. I was a stat for the wrestling team, he was always pacing back and forth at the meets. He was more nervous than the guys. You can never ask for a better coach and teacher. My prayers are for you Judy and your wonderful family. May he rest in peace.

Mr. Huston was probably the funniest teacher I ever had. Back in the 70's we wore Frye boots and he said he had better boots. So..one day he wore his in. Pointed toes and all. We asked what was so great about his boots. His response was "I can kill cockroaches in the corner. He was awesome. Praying for Judy and the boys. He will truly be missed.

Mr. Huston was my driver's Ed teacher. I have thought of him frequently over the years making his "elephant face" when passing by Coventry High School. He was always so kind and funny. I have fond memories of Mr. Huston, his class, and his humor. I pray your memories comfort your family.

Mr Houston was my Driver’s Ed teacher at Coventry. He taught the book part. He was such a great teacher and I did learn about defensive driving in his class. I can still see him sitting casually on the corner of his desk just smiling as he talked with us. I always thought he was a handsome man. A genuinely nice person. So very sorry for your loss.

I’m struggling with words right now So I will just tell funny stories. Dale Huston was the coolest Dad in the history of Dads. I roomed with Matt for five years (this is not a misprint) at Ohio State. He was best man in my wedding. I spent at least three OSU-Michigan weekends with Dale. 35 years later, we still laugh about those great times! When Matt graduated from Ohio State, I was in total denial. I remember asking Dale. “Dale, are you still going to come down to Columbus and hang out with us?” He was just such an awesome guy. Great Dad, great husband, great friend. Just “the dude.” Judy, Matt, Scott and family we are so heartbroken. You have been in our prayers constantly. Great Dad. Great husband Great friend. Great man Love, The Spurlock family, Tim, Krystal, Caden and Garin
