Born in Định Quán Đồng Nai, Vietnam, on October 25, 1986, he was the third son of Cau Van Ly and Sap Thi Tsan. He immigrated to the United States of America with his mother and three siblings on June 4, 1998 at the age of 11, and became one of the first of many cousins to become a graduate of Orangefield High School (Class of 2005) seven years later.
Dan had a big heart and a quiet personality. Dan always had two things on him: a big, goofy smile and a cold bottle of Heineken. He was a loving son, brother, father, cousin, and friend. Some will know him from his time at the United DC, the docks of Peggy’s, or his time at the nail salon, but everyone will know him as a hardworking, selfless, and down-to-earth type of man. Someone who would literally give you the shirt off his back.
His family and friends will cherish memories of him and miss him dearly.
Dan was preceded in death by his father, Cau Van Ly.
He is survived by his mother, Sap Thi Tsan and step-father, Minh Ngọc Nguyen of Bridge City; children, Jonathan Roy Ly, Michael Trung Ly, Madison Rose Ly, and Alexander James Ly all of Mauriceville; mother of his children, Katheryn Dubois Ly of Mauriceville; and siblings, Thanh Trung Ly and wife Vicky Bui of Corbin, Kentucky, Quyen Trung Ly and wife Huynh Nhu Tran of Saigon, Vietnam, and Huynh Thu Ly and husband Khai Hoang Thanh Nguyen.
The family asks in lieu of flowers, donations will be graciously accepted to further the education of his four children, Jonathan, Michael, Madison, and Alexander Ly. Donations can be made online via PayPal @danhoatrungly
