Dan Thomas "Tommy" Martin, Jr.
Dan Thomas Tommy Martin, Jr. passed from this life on August 6, 2010 and went home to be with his Lord and Savior and the family and friends who have gone before him. He had just recently celebrated his 89th birthday. He was born on July 27, 1921 to Dan T. Martin, Sr. and Kitty Watts Martin in Livingston, Texas.
He was so dearly loved by his family and everyone who knew him and will be greatly missed. He was a wonderful Christian man whose life on earth was a testimony of God's gifts and of His mercy, love, and grace. He was always a total joy to be with and an inspiration to everyone. Despite his health circumstances, he never complained and seemed to focus on making others happy. He loved his family so much and always showed his love for them and for his friends. He was a wonderful husband and a fantastic father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He was patient, kind, unselfish, encouraging, and loved others unconditionally. He loved to sing, could play any kind of musical instrument, and could write beautiful poetry.
Dan Tommy was a resident of The Meadows Nursing Home in Orange, and his family appreciates the love and care he received from those who work there and from his fellow residents. Before his stroke, he was an active deacon in Amelia Baptist Church in Beaumont, a Past Worshipful Master of the Masonic Lodge in Orange, and retired from Allied Chemical in 1986 after 32 years of service. He served four years in the Air Force during World War II.
Preceding him in death are his wife of 61 years, Mary Alice Martin, his son, David Wayne Martin, and his sister, Patricia Bevel of Livingston, Texas. Left behind to cherish his memories are his children, Gary Martin and wife Carolyn, Kitty Ryan and husband Jody, Tommy Martin and wife Natalie; grandchildren, Thomas Martin and wife Rhonda, Kimberly Peveto, Cody Ryan and wife Jennifer,
Adam Martin and wife Aimee, Tiffany Martin, and Amy Martin. Great grandchildren are Emily and Ethan Martin, Brennan Peck, and Dallas, Rylee, and Elyse Martin.
He is also survived by his step-sister, Eton Mahan of Vidor. Although his family mourns his death, they celebrate his Christian life and praise God for the outstanding example he set for his family and for the many wonderful memories he has given them.
Visitation will be held at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange on Sunday, August 8 from 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be at Claybar Chapel in Orange at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, August 9.
