Dan Dodson, 77, of Orange, Texas, passed away on April 18, 2023, in Houston, Texas.

A memorial service honoring Dan and his late wife, Joan Dodson, will be 6:00 p.m., Friday, May 5, 2023, at Claybar Funeral Home in Bridge City, Texas.

A visitation will prior to the service from 5:00 – 6:00 p.m., Friday, May 5, 2023, at Claybar Funeral Home in Bridge City, Texas.

Born in Houston, Texas, on December 23, 1945, Danny was the first son of Daniel Dewey and Marie Misco Roby and older brother to Donald Dodson. He spent his youth playing sports and enjoying friends and family while taking care of his little brother. He lived in Houston until the family moved to Mobile, Alabama when Dan was 8 years old. After high school, Danny served two tours in Vietnam as a member of the US Marine Corp. He met Joan not too long after his return when his cousin (Joan’s best friend), Patsy Papania, brought a friend to a family gathering in Galveston, Tx. Danny and Joan married in 1973, both bringing into their marriage a rich history and blessings to create a new family. Danny was known for his joy in the simple pleasures of life … his family, friends, good food, his (many) dogs and a love of sports. Following his tours in Vietnam he was hired by Southern Pacific in 1974. By 1976 he had been promoted to Conductor. He retired from the railroad after 22 years, 16 of which he spent representing his fellow railmen as the local chairman of the United Transportation Union from Houston to Lafayette, LA. His childhood in Mobile, AL gave Dan a love for the ocean, leading to an annual beach vacation which he provided for his family for over 30 years. Danny was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and friend and he will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is preceded in death by beloved wife, Joan Dodson; his daughter, Danna Jones; his mother, Marie Roby; his father, Daniel Dodson; and his brother, Donnie Carmichael.

He is survived by his daughters, Mary Dodson and Donna Jones; his grandchildren, Ayla Dodson-Hestand and Daniel Jones; and other loving friends and family.
