Davette Ann Pickard

Davette Ann Pickard, 84, of Orange, Texas, was Welcomed into the arms of our loving Savior, Jesus, on November 15, 2025, in Port Arthur.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 6:30pm, on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, at Commonground Community Church, 1115 W. Roundbunch Rd., Bridge City, Texas, 77611.

Born in Port Arthur, Texas, on December 28, 1940, she was the daughter of William “Bill” J. Clark and Yola Chatagnier Clark. Davette leaves behind a legacy defined by her compassion, dedication, generosity, zest for life and Love of Jesus. She was an esteemed member of Common Ground Community Church in Bridge City, where she nurtured her faith and her community spirit. Her unwavering commitment to service was evident in her countless hours of volunteering with the Ministerial Alliance, the Orange County Sheriff’s Association, Well of Hope Christian Fellowship and many other organizations over the years. A caretaker at heart, she possessed a rare ability to give of herself fully, always placing the needs of others before her own. Family was everything to Davette. She created a warm and loving environment for her family, earning the cherished title of "Grandma" from her grandchildren. Beyond her devotion to her faith, family and community, Davette embraced life with an adventurous spirit. She held a pilot's license in her earlier years and reveled in the thrill of flight. Her love for the outdoors was reflected in her enjoyment of riding motorcycles and hunting, activities that allowed her to experience nature and connect with the world around her. As we remember Davette, we celebrate a life filled with faith, love, service, and adventure. She will be deeply missed and forever cherished in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Yola Clark; her loving husband of 67 years, Don Pickard; and her sister, Jane Clark.

She is survived by her son, Donnie Pickard, and wife, Christina; her grandchildren, Hunter Pickard and wife, Nicole, Lauren Royal and husband, Justin, and Kiki Pickard; her great-grandchildren, Maverick Royal, Logan Pickard, Levi Royal, and Aubrey Pickard; her brother, Dean Clark; and numerous other loving family members and friends.

The family would like to extend heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has cared for her in any way. She was thankful and grateful for all of you.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Common Ground Community Church in Bridge City at www.cgcc.org/giving.

Cremation will be held under the direction of Claybar Funeral Home in Orange.

What a servant Davette was. During this last year, Davette talked with me about not being able to serve the way she used to. Just a few weeks ago, we sat in the church lobby talking for about 45 minutes, just being real with each other. I told her then that she had spent her life serving more than most people ever do. All I could ask her to do now was serve by praying for the church, which is the first thing we should do anyway... pray for one another. She was a mighty woman of faith, so it was a privilege to ask her for prayer. When Commonground Church first got off the ground, Davette and Don were such huge supporters. Even though they attended church elsewhere, they gave to us faithfully every month, just to be sure they supported us. Who does that? Yet they did, and eventually, they came to be a part of us. To see their faces and to know them over the past 20+ years has been a joy for Lori and I. We will greatly miss her. Donny and Christine, we love you. Thank you for your love and support. When and if you need us, we're here.

My Aunt Davette told me why they were laughing in this picture, so now you know too.

Hello, beautiful. Like so many who were blessed to have you in their lives, I carry countless wonderful memories of you. As a child, staying over with you all was always such a joy. You were forever ready to fix us something to eat after our long, hard “work” of playing all day. You always had something thoughtful—and often funny—to say, willing hands to help with a puzzle or coloring, and a gentle touch to place a badge of honor—a simple Band-Aid—on any little bo-bo, even when it wasn’t truly needed. I remember waiting impatiently at camp for you all to arrive so our adventure could begin, and watching you step out of the truck chewing and popping your gum like it was an Olympic sport. That skill was my absolute favorite “Aunt Davette Superpower,” and it’s clear you remain the undefeated gold-medal gum-popping champion. Then, there was the magazine article of your record buck showing a rack almost the size of you. It was just you being the amazing you. There were the times you’d stop by to pick up my daughter, Tiffany, just to take her out for ice cream in your little red Corvette. She adored you every bit as much as I did. We loved having you at Ella’s birthday parties too—so she could get to know you, and simply because we wanted you there. You lived a life defined by love—love for everyone, and by example. You had a way of making everything better, whether you were with us in person or, now, through the memories that keep your spirit close as you rest in your joyful, forever home. God wrote about you in Proverbs 31:10–31. A wonderful description of you, sweet and precious lady of splendor. How deeply I adore you. See you later, beautiful.

Davette was at our Class Luncheon at Tia Juanita’s last Tuesday the 11th. She looked great as always but seemed to be having a hard time getting to her car. Jerry Gallien Barron and I offered to follow her home but being Davette and totally independent, as usual said No. She wanted to stop by Walmart in Bridge City! I called her on the 14th to see how she was. She was in the hospital but in very good spirits ! I ask her if I could come and help do anything and she said her daughter in law was with her! I’m so glad I can remember her upbeat attitude! I speak for our whole class when I say “ We love you Davette”!

Such a wonderful family I have loved the pickards as long as I remember so e of my best memories were hunting with them and swimming at the house. I pray for peace for the family and I know God is welcoming home his good and faithful servant. Bless your family and thanks for the blessing on knowing you and Don. What a wonderful reunion.

Sweet sweet friend Davette, God is so very good as we both expounded on in our last conversation a couple of weeks ago. When another dear friend shared with me the news about your moving to be with Jesus and Don, my heart broke for Donnie and family. You were not worried in the least about going to our eternal home, but ached about the pain you knew the family would suffer. I thank God for that longer than usual phone conversation we had for it put my soul at peace knowing how much life you lived and how much love you shared while here among us. Only God can give the “peace that transcends all understanding” and that peace was evident when we spoke. All is well with your soul- all is well.
