Born in Pasadena, California, on December 12, 1951, he was the son of Jean and Fred Mallgrave, Jr. David was an All-State athlete and a remarkable teammate. At South Pasadena High School, he helped his football team win four CIF championships. He went on to play baseball for the University of Oregon while working on his Bachelor's degree. Upon graduation, he became the head baseball coach at Menlo College. After coaching for three years, David moved to Texas to pursue his Master's Degree in physical therapy at Texas Women's University. He was an advocate for higher education and later graduated with his Doctorate from Boston University. There was nothing more David wanted than to help others, and he did just that. He concentrated on orthopedics and started the Sports Medicine Clinic of SETX with Dr. Buck Reid. Within two years, they were serving 30 regional high schools. David was also a pioneer in industrial medicine and developed a program to help local and international companies save money on medical costs. He successfully owned and operated Moorman and Associates from 1996 until his retirement. His accolades included serving on the Medical Advisory Committee for the Texas Workman Comp Commission, advisor for the ASSE, active member of the APTA for over 30 years, and being honored as Texas Physical Therapist of the year in 2005. David never stopped exploring; he managed to have time to travel around the world, going on several National Geographic expeditions, including a trip to Antarctica. When stateside, David loved bass fishing and playing golf with his mates. David had energy that could light up a room and always put others first. He was a wonderful Christian man and a faithful attendee of SETX Church. Those closest to David knew how witty he was and got to experience his great sense of humor. He was an incredible man and leader in the community and will be deeply missed by all his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Fred Mallgrave, Jr..

He is survived by his mother, Jean Mallgrave; brother, Fred Joseph Mallgrave III (Ted) and wife Colleen; sister, Lesley Mallgrave; niece Megan Mallgrave-Gonzalez and husband Raul; nephew, Mark Mallgrave and wife Deborah and their children, Zachary, Spencer, and Dylan; friend, Virginia (Jenny) Phelps; loved ones he called family, Suzanne Buchanan and husband Christopher and their children, Cainan and Dominic, Katie Geis and husband Zachary and their children, Alee and Sadie, Derek Anderson and wife Danielle and their child, Hayes; former spouse, Beverly Diane Mallgrave and his beloved Huskies, Sitka and Sierra.
