Debra Valerie Strahan, 63, of Orange, Texas, passed away on January 8, 2019, and is now peacefully in the arms of her beloved husband, Ronnie Strahan.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 12, 2019, at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange. Officiating will be Reverend John Warren.
Cremation will be held under the direction of Claybar Funeral Home in Orange.
Born in Orange, Texas, on June 26, 1955, she was the daughter of John Douglas Russell and Dorothy (Golden) Russell. Debra graduated from Mauriceville High School and went on to graduate as a nurse from Lamar University. She faithfully attended church at First Methodist Church in Orange. Debra had a big heart, that extended to everyone she came across, warming all with her nurturing and caring spirit. No matter what she had on her plate, Debra was the first to help, and be there for anyone in need, often giving herself as a mother figure, shoulder to cry on, and community nurse to all. She loved to read, dance, sit and watch nature, but most of all, she loved to cook: often showing her love through her gumbo. Debra will be dearly missed by all those who came to know and love her.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 37 years, Ronnie Strahan; and sisters, Becky, Vickie, and Pat.
She is survived by her daughter, Tara Devilbiss and husband Ramsey of Austin; sister, Kathryn Russell of Orange; granddog, Ralph; along with other cousins and family.

I am so sorry that I didn't get to know Debra better while she worked for us at Advanced Pediatric Care. I do want to share that when I talked to the client's mother that she was currently working with, she stated that she was the most caring nurse she had ever had for her daughter, she always knew her daughter would be well cared for and loved and she will truly be missed by the family and client. Deb was a wonderful lady who always kept a smile on her face. She lived life to the fullest. I will always remember her telling the story of how she ziplined in Ronnie’s memory. She is finally home now with Ronnie. Prayers go out to Tara and her husband.

Debra was a great nurse that cared about her patients and her co-workers. She was an awesome pediatric nurse. She was always smiling and making people laugh. She could make the crankiest person turn their frown upside down. She will be greatly missed. Prayers for her family.
