Dewey Jean Martinez Jr., age 89, a resident of Orange, died peacefully July 29, 2022, at his home. He was born on February 8, 1933, in Iberia Parish, Louisiana.
He served in the Korean Conflict, serving in Hawaii, running artillery, and serving in the weather squadron. After discharge from the United States Marine Corps, he was employed at DuPont Sabine River Works in Orange, where he worked more than 45 years. A member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles of Orange, he was also an avid golfer and an award-winning boxer in his youth.
He is preceded in death by wife, Carol Jean Martinez, one brother Julian Martinez, sisters Linda Martinez Leleux, Shirley Martinez Thibodeaux, Camay Martinez Gills and Aline Martinez Hebert, and his parents, Dewey Martinez Sr. and Olivia Landry Martinez.
Survivors include four daughters, Deborah Karol Avant and Pamela Ann Jaus of Arlington, Texas, Elizabeth Lou Ford of Clear Lake, Texas, and Susan Michelle Martinez of Carleton, Michigan; three sons, Christopher Todd Martinez and Mark Dewey Martinez of Orange and Neal Alan Martinez of Houston. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
