Doris Louise Collier
Mother, you really were a remarkable person. Growing up in rural east Texas Center, living through the Great Depression and winding up in Orange to support the War effort melded your character. Selling tickets at the Strand Theater, you met the man of your dreams, Morris Collier. He had a cute Chevy convertible that you were quite taken with and that cowboy stole your heart. You made such a good couple, loving and dancing your way to a life of local fame and joy. Bob Wills, Ray Price and many musical talents filled the night with their music and you were there to kick up your heels and make memories. Starting off in West Orange, you moved to John Street where you had Louann and Bubba. After serving Harms Marine Service as a bookkeeper for many years, you moved on to the Orange County Auditor's Office. At the Sabine River Authority you served as an accountant, made many good friends and oversaw the financial aspects of the construction of Lake Fork. The move to Roselawn saw the addition of Carol to the family and you continued your motherly duties in another installment while working. Did we say remarkable? While supporting a local politician through three decades during terms as Constable and County Commissioner? Your home on Ben Mac Road was a meeting place for our families at holidays and family events. It was there you cooked some of the best meals of our lives and no one ever made a better banana pudding. We loved your patience with all of us; we loved your grace and we loved your wit. Many of your dearest friends are no longer with us but we know the ones who are will miss you. Thank you for your sacrifices and your hard work. Thank you for sharing your values and your character with us and making us what we are today. We love you, Mother.
