Doris Faye Singleton Bloodworth

December 22, 1928 — September 6, 2016

Doris Faye Singleton Bloodworth, 87, of Beaumont, walked into the loving arms of Jesus on September 6, 2016. Born in Longleaf, LA she was the daughter of John Henson Singleton and Gertrude Grace Singleton. The family moved to Lake Charles LA when she was in the 4th grade.

After graduating from La Grange High School in Lake Charles in 1945, she enrolled in the Cadet Nurse Corps which was established by Congress to ensure that the country had enough nurses during WW II. After completing training at Hotel Dieu in Beaumont and receiving her RN, she first worked at the Fertitta Clinic and then at St Therese Hospital before moving to St Elizabeth Beaumont when it opened in 1962.

She was a surgical nurse at St Elizabeth Hospital for 30 years where she was a member of the medical team that introduced open heart surgery to Southeast Texas. Her passion for nursing provided her with such a fulfilling career, but a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother, God and her family always came first. After retiring in 1991, she volunteered at the Police Sub-Station at Parkdale Mall and after 21 years of service was awarded the “Lifetime Achievement Award” from the Beaumont PD.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Hiram (HM) Bloodworth, her parents John and Gertrude Singleton, brother Glynn Singleton and sister Bessie Plummer.

She is survived by sons Lindsey Bloodworth and wife Vicky, Mark Bloodworth and wife Nancy, grandchildren Lauren Wright and husband Greggory, Colin Bloodworth and wife Kasia, Graeme Bloodworth and wife Tori, and great granddaughters Lyla and Evelyn Wright.

Visitation will be from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm Friday evening, September 9. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, September 10 at Claybar Funeral Home in Beaumont. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery.

The family would like to thank the staff of Collier Park, Altus Hospice & Heavenly Hearts Caregivers for their devoted and compassionate care of our precious mother & grandmother.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations may be made to the 100 Club of Southeast Texas.
