It was once said, “It is cheerful to God when you rejoice or laugh from the bottom of your heart.”
Dorothy Jean (Dottie) Davis Droddy passed peacefully to eternal joy on August 24, 2014, surrounded by her children and sisters. All who love her will miss her special gift to the world: laughter.
Dottie was born in Orange, Texas, on September 5, 1939, to William Edes (Bud) and Lucille (Lormand) Davis. She was proud to be one of “the Davis” sisters. From a young age, she possessed the gift of humor. She loved a good knee-slapping joke, delivered effortless punchlines, and like all great comediennes, knew how to laugh at herself.
She laughed with the young and the old, the rich and the poor, the downtrodden and the victors. She especially loved a soulful belly laugh with her sisters while piecing together words on a Scrabble board and discussing the week’s events on Dancing with the Stars.
The only thing Dottie did not laugh about was football. A Houstonian for years, she was a seriously diehard Oilers supporter. She later cheered for the Texans and the Saints but remained a lifelong Luv Ya Blue fan.
It was Dottie’s joy to make the world smile, and she richly blessed all who knew her with her infectious lightness of heart. Her spirit will live on in the laughter and memories of all who love her.
Preceded in death by her parents and her beloved sister Geraldene Bates, Dottie will remain in the hearts of her children, Roger Droddy and his partner Judy Harvey of Cypress, and Kerri Droddy of Vidor; her sisters Carolyn Gorby and Maggie Reynolds of Orange; nieces, DeLisa Bates, Kelli Bates, and Lana Portner; nephews, Michael Reynolds, Brandon Bates, Brent Hubbard, and Jerry Hubbard; cousins, and many friends who will miss her dearly.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday, August 27, 2014 at 6:00 p.m. at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange with visitation beginning at 5:00 p.m.

Dottie will be forever in my heart and memories. My fondest memory is of the time she lived with me after my son Brandon was born. Yes - she did have such a way with babies and children. As an infant, "Aunt" Dottie (also known as "Tootie Frootie" to many) was always able to get Brandon to sleep when I couldn't. He would just nestle down for her - the memory of her holding him brings such peaceful thoughts to my mind.We will all miss Dottie so much and we were very blessed to have had the privilege of knowing her. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all at this time.Carol, Brandon and Phil
