Dorothy Tupper Wriborg

July 23, 1913 — March 3, 2011

Dorothy Tupper Wriborg, 97, was born July 23, 1913 in Elton, Louisiana to Lydia Ewing Tupper and Ansel Perry Tupper and died on March 3, 2011 at Harbor Hospice surrounded by her family. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband of 73 years, Stephen J. Wriborg, and brothers, Edward Tupper and Henry Tupper.

She moved to Port Arthur in 1928 after the death of her father when she was a senior in high school. She graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School and Port Arthur Business College. While in Port Arthur, she met her future husband, Steve, who worked at Texaco with her brother Edward.

Dorothy was a wonderful homemaker with a love for cooking, sewing for her girls, bookkeeping, genealogy, knitting, photography and quilting. Dorothy was an active member of Lakeview Methodist Church in Port Arthur, teaching Sunday School and volunteering for many church activities. She also volunteered many hours at The United Board of Missions in Port Arthur. She and her husband loved to travel and visited every state of the union, Europe and Canada. They loved to find Wriborgs and Tuppers in any town they visited, including her English relatives in Bignor, England.

Dorothy and Steve raised their three girls in Port Arthur and moved to Beaumont after 64 years in the same home in Griffing Park. Recently, she has resided at Calder Woods Retirements Center in Beaumont.

Dorothy is survived by her three daughters, Honore? and Ernest Brinkman, Dewanna and John Norris of Houston and Becky and Lane Nichols of Beaumont; five grandchildren, Kay Brinkman Jones, Trent Norris, Monica Norris Bochat, Christy Nichols Frugia and Stephen Nichols; ten great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild and another on the way.

Funeral services will be Sunday, March 6, 2011 at 3:00 p.m. at First United Methodist Church of Beaumont with Dr. Frank Alegria and Rev. Eldon Reed officiating. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Port Arthur. Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 5, 2011 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Claybar Kelley-Watkins Funeral Home.
