Dorthy Lea McGill Gilcrease, 90, of Orangefield, died Thursday, May 31, 2007, in Fort Worth.
A graveside service will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 2, 2007, at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Orange. Reverend Dale Vance, retired pastor of First Baptist Church in Orangefield, will officiate.
Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 p.m. Friday at Claybar Funeral Home Chapel in Bridge City.
Mrs. Gilcrease was born November 26, 1916, in Sour Lake, to James and Audrey Harmon McGill. She was a descendent of John Harmon, the first anglo to obtain a Spanish land grant in Orange County.
She was a charter member of First Baptist Church in Orangefield, where she played the piano for many years; was Editor-in-chief of the ?Orangefield Progress? newspaper in the 1930?s and had worked as a clerk for the U.S. Postal Service in Orangefield.
Preceded in death by Lyons ?Spud? Gilcrease, her husband of 59 years and 9 months, and her sister, Rachael Cunningham, she is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Pat and Clint Rogers of Houston; son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Judy Gilcrease of Fort Worth; sisters, Earline Russell and Jimmy Cay Pattillo, both of Orangefield and Sunny Sinclair and her husband Bob of Tyler.
Also surviving are her grandchildren, Janet Martin and her husband Nick of Arlington, Buck Gilcrease and his wife Dani of Marble Falls, Gail Boyes and her husband, Bob of Houston; eight great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
