Douglas Roy Harrington, Sr., 74, longtime resident of Bridge City and current resident of Spring, passed away Friday, October 25, 2013, at Nexus Specialty Hospital in Shenandoah, Texas.
Funeral services will be 10:00am, Wednesday, October 30, 2013, at Claybar Funeral Home in Bridge City. Officiating will be Chaplain Mike Eaves. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Winnie. Serving as Pallbearers will be Doug Harrington, Jr., Race Dearbonne, Kruz Dearbonne, John Long, Clinton Scroggs and Derrick Deyoung. Honorary Pallbearers will be Luke Trahan, Dow Gene Anderson, Roy Dunn and Dick Bell.
Visitation will be from 5:00pm to 8:00pm, Tuesday, at the funeral home.
Born in Port Arthur on December 15, 1938, Douglas was the son of Senator David Roy Harrington and Marie (Scroggs) Harrington. After graduating from Thomas Jefferson High School, Douglas attended Texas A & M University where he was a track star and medaled in diving. He then transferred to the University of Houston graduating with his pharmacy degree. He was instrumental in starting immunizations in Orange as well as Golden Triangle Savings and Loan where he was a member of the original board. He was a member of Bridge City Rotary Club, Ducks Unlimited, and helped start Ducks Unlimited in Woodland Park, Colorado. Douglas was a pharmacist for 50 years, but his proudest achievement of all was his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by his parents, Douglas is survived by his wife, Regina Harrington of Spring; son, Douglas Roy Harrington, Jr. of Kemah; daughters, Dana Michelle Dearbonne of Bridge City and Britanie Nicole Long and husband, Jon of Spring; and daughter-in-law, Rachel Harrington of Kemah.
Douglas is also survived by his grandchildren, Olivia Trahan, Alexandra Harrington, Race Dearbonne, Kruz Dearbonne, Preslie Long, Brilyn Long; one great-grandchild, Luke Trahan; and sister, Karol Hathaway and husband, Henry.
