Dr. David V. Cardner

Funeral services for Dr. David V. Cardner, 75, of Orange will be held Saturday, May 7, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at First United Methodist Church of Orange with Reverend W. C. Hall officiating. Entombment will follow at Orange Forest Lawn Cemetery in West Orange. A gathering of family and friends will be Friday evening from 5-7:00 p.m. at Claybar Funeral Home.

David was born June 15, 1935 in Wilmington, Delaware to the late Roland Carl and Aileen Shaw Cardner and passed away May 3, 2011 at Baptist Hospital in Beaumont. A resident of Orange since 1963, David received a PhD in Chemical Engineering from Rice University.

After his retirement from 30 years of employment with E.I. DuPont Sabine River Works as a Technical Associate, David served as Deputy Director of the ECRC for Lamar University in Orange, Vice-President of Engineering for Tejas Engineering and held two patents on process computer control. He was listed on the Texas Register of Professional Engineers, was a registered Property and Casualty Insurance Agent and was currently serving as President of the Golden "K" Kiwanis Club of Orange.

Appointed by Gov. Clements as a Sabine River Compact Commissioner, David was a former member of the State Republican Executive Committee and was active in the Orange County Republican Party. He was a member of the Monday Night Bridge Group and First United Methodist Church in Orange.

Above all his many activities and accomplishments, David was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and a kind, giving and loyal friend. He loved computers, repairing things … and talking politics.

David is survived by his wife, Linn P. Cardner of Orange, Texas; three sons and daughters-in-law, Roland "Rollie" and Alice Cardner of Katy, Texas, John Charles and Lenora Cardner of Orange, Texas, William "Bill" and Stephanie Cardner of Flower Mound, Texas; eight grandchildren, Brandy Bernat and husband, Kevin, Kristi Unger and husband, Levi, David Ray Cardner, Mallory Linn Cardner, Maraea Linn Cardner, Timothy John Cardner, Sarah Eloise Cardner, Blaze William Cardner; two step-grandchildren, Sgt. Chase Authement, US Army, Spc. Eric Authement, USMC; two great-grandchildren, Kaleb Allen Bernat, Bella Grace Bernat; one brother, Richard Shaw Cardner and wife, Julie; two step sisters-in-law, Ann Taylor, Maraea Taylor; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and step-brothers, Charles C. Taylor and M. Welby Taylor
