Earl Nugent

Earl Nugent, 79, of Orange, went home to be with the Lord, Sunday, January 18, 2009, at Harbour Hospital in Orange. He was surrounded by his family when he was called home.
Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, January 21, 2009, at North Orange Baptist Church, Pastor Scott McIntosh and Reverend Danny Gilliam to officiate. Interment will be at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be 5:00-8:00 p.m., Tuesday at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange.
Earl was born September 3, 1929, in Jones, LA to Lawrence and Hattie Nugent, he resided in Orange since 1958.
He was very active in basketball and baseball while attending high school in Georgetown, LA. After graduation he served in the US Army for two years. He moved back to Georgetown where he married his high school sweetheart, Barbara "Bobbie" Jean Corley. They moved to Vinton, LA before hiring on with DuPont Sabine River Works where he worked in the Packaging and Scheduling area. He and Bobbie moved to Orange in 1958. He retired form DuPont in 1991 after many years of dedicated service.
He enjoyed fishing, coaching his two sons in sports, fast pitch softball, bowling, but most of all golf. Earl is well known throughout the Golden Triangle for his skills as an avid golfer. He is also remembered as a very good fast pitch softball pitcher in the Orange area.
He was an active member of the North Orange Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother; brothers, Ivy Lee "Bootsy" and J.W. Nugent; sister, Nell Long; and granddaughter, Marci Nugent.
He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Bobbie, sons Craig and wife Pam of Bridge City, Raymond and wife Jessica of Orange and daughter, Connie Nugent of Orange; granddaughters, Mandi Thibodeaux and husband Blaine of Nederland, Melodi Nugent of Bridge City, Cressa Hebert of Beaumont and Devon Trahan of Alvin; great grandchildren, Amaris Brown 4, Channing "C.J." Larkin, Jr. 3 mos.; brothers, Robert Lee and wife Diane Nugent of Centerville, LA, Bobby Ray "Baby" and wife Carolyn Nugent of Bastrop, LA and Ivy Lawrence "Man" and wife Theda of Cypress Bend, LA.
Serving as pallbearers will be his nephews, Gary Nugent, Ronnie Nugent, Mark Nugent, Jeff Despino, Jody Despino and Jack Corley.
Honorary pallbearers will be "The Herd" of Sunset Grove Country Club.
Special thanks go to Elaine Marceaux and Annie Jacobs for their loving care given to dad for the past two years. There are no words to express how much we loved him or how much he will be missed by his family.
