Earl "Shorty" Roddy, 86, of Orange, died Sunday, August 29, 2010, at his home.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 1, 2010, at Claybar Funeral Home Chapel in Orange. Officiating will be Reverend Andy Pate of First Christian Church in Orange.
Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens near Bridge City.
Visitation will be 5:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday, at the funeral home.
Born in Orange on October 3, 1923, Shorty was the son of Louis John Roddy and Lucille Veyre Roddy. He served in the Army Air Corp during WWII in India. Shorty retired from DuPont after 37 years and loved playing golf.
He was preceded in death by his sisters, Odie Edgerton and Lola Harding Watts; brothers, James Roddy and L.J. Roddy; and great-grandson, Wade Wilson.
Shorty is survived by his wife of 59 years, Iva Roddy; daughter, Jo Tyler of Orange; daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Steve Nichols of San Antonio; and son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Charlette Roddy of Orange.
He is also survived by his six grandchildren, Jason Tyler, Katie and Carly Nichols, Coby and Eric Roddy and Jennifer Bennett; two great-grandchildren, Kylie Guidry and Greysen Bennett; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Serving as Pallbearers will be Jason Tyler, Coby Roddy, Eric Roddy, John Harding, Don Edgerton and Jesse Edgerton.
