Born in Orange, Texas, on September 26, 1935, he was the son of Edward Lee “Duke” Henry, Sr. and Beulah Mae Corbell Henry. The family resided on Border Street across from the courthouse. Until 1939, when the family moved to West Orange. Edward grew up on Crabtree Street in a house he still owned to this day. A devoted family man and esteemed member of his community, his life was marked by dedication, creativity, and an unwavering passion for history and the arts. Edward received his education in the local schools, attending West Orange Elementary School, Carr Junior High, and graduating from Lutcher Stark Senior High, where he was affectionately known as "Ed" by his classmates. He furthered his education at Lamar College and Abilene Christian College, laying a strong foundation for a successful career. In 1959, Edward proudly joined the United States Marine Corps, serving with honor in the reserves for five years, where he held the rank of Corporal. His military service instilled in him values of discipline and commitment that carried throughout his life. In January 1960, Edward began a long and fulfilling career with DuPont. He spent 18 years as a Chemical Analyst before transitioning to fulfill another 18 years as a draftsman. His contributions to the company were significant, and he was known for his work ethic and dedication. Edward was a faithful member of the 9th and Elm Church of Christ, where he embraced his faith as a guiding light in his life. He had a passion for the arts, particularly painting landscapes and wood carving, which allowed him to express his creativity and appreciation for the beauty of the world around him. A proud third-generation resident of Orange, Edward developed a keen interest in the history of his hometown. In his later years, he contributed to the Las Sabinas magazine, published by the Orange County Historical Society, writing articles that reflected his extensive knowledge and profound love of world history. His insights will be missed, but his legacy will live on through the historical narratives he crafted and the lives he touched with his wisdom and warm spirit. His memory will forever remain in the hearts of his loved ones and his community.
