Elizabeth "Betty" Miller

Elizabeth Plaas Miller died Tuesday, February 5th, 2013 in Beaumont, Texas.
Betty was born November 13th, 1917, in Larimore, North Dakota. She was the daughter of Dr. George A. and Augusta R. Plaas.
Betty attended high school in Larimore, excelling in music. She was a member of her high school girls' basketball team which won the North Dakota state championship in 1935. She graduated as class salutatorian in that same year.
After high school Betty moved to St. Paul, Minnesota and attended Cable's Twin City Secretarial College. She stayed in St. Paul after completion of the secretarial program and worked at the Klinkerfuss Meat Packing Company and the Covered Wagon Café.
She married 2nd LT. Keith Iverson Miller at Fort Snelling, Minnesota on April 11, 1943. Subsequent assignments took the couple to New Orleans, Louisiana and Portland, Oregon. In September 1944, Keith was assigned to the European Theater of Operations, returned from Europe in 1946 and was released from active duty. While Keith was in Europe, Betty moved to Minneapolis, bought a house and waited for his return. They lived in Minneapolis until 1961 when they moved to Lombard, Illinois, and in 1980 relocated again to Orange, Texas. During these years Betty was active in school and church activities, and served as a leader of her daughter's Camp Fire Girl troop.
Elizabeth was preceded in death by her husband, Keith Iverson Miller of Orange, Texas, her grandson, Matthew Norris Miller, her parents, and her brother, George A. Plaas of Grand Forks, North Dakota.
She is survived by four children, Marilyn Chapman, of Chicago, Illinois, Peter Miller, of Beaumont, Texas, Lee Miller, of Orange, Texas, and Don Miller and his wife Sandy, of Milford, Delaware; one Grandchild, Rachael Crozier and her husband Jeremy, of Grain Valley, Missouri; three great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Betty was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Orange, Texas.
A Memorial Service will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, Orange, Texas on Saturday, February 9th at 10:00 AM, Pastor Paul Zoch officiating
The family request that memorials, in lieu of flowers, be given to the Fort Snelling Memorial Chapel Foundation, PO Box 211283, Eagan, MN 55121-2783, or the charity of their choice.
The family extends their thanks to the staff members of Memorial Herman Baptist Hospital of Orange, Harbor Hospice of Beaumont, and Prescribed Home Health.
