Elizabeth Theresia Hommel, 81, of Orange, died Thursday, January 6, 2011, at Baptist Orange Hospital.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, January 10, 2011, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Orange with Reverend Tom Phelan officiating. Burial will follow at St. Mary Cemetery in Orange.
Visitation will be from 4:30-6:00 p.m., Sunday with a Wake Service held at 5:00 p.m. at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange.
Born in Oberglogau, Germany on March 8, 1929, Elizabeth was the daughter of August Wilhelm Thiel and Helene Anna Geborene Reimann Thiel. She was a faithful member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church and a member of St. Francis Altar Society in Orange. Elizabeth was also a Precinct worker for Voter Registration for many years.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Gerhard W. G.W. Hommel; daughter-in-law, Saretha Hommel; and two sisters.
Elizabeth is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Gerhard Hommel of Jennings, Louisiana, Bobby and Sherry Hommel of Orange and David and Sherry Hommel of Woodville.
She is also survived by her twelve grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and other family members in Germany.
Serving as Pallbearers will be Kelly Smith, T.J. Biscamp, Justin Hommel, Jason Staton, Lee Rodgers, Jr., and Greg Rodgers. Honorary Pallbearers will be Adam Hommel, Sammy Owen, Buddy Pousson and Steven Hommel.
