Ellen Jane Johnnie

Ellen Jane Johnnie

Ellen Jane Johnnie, 81, of Orangefield, Texas, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her beloved family, on August 7, 2024.

Born October 4, 1942, in Orange, Texas, she was the daughter of Clifford and Florence Moreau. She enjoyed cooking, listening to French music, spending time with family, working on word puzzles, and bathing in the sun. She attended nursing school to become a nurse, which was her passion. She worked at Baptist Hospital in Orange in the labor and delivery department and then in the nursery. If you had a child at Baptist in the '80s, she was probably the person who held your hand and told you, "You can do this." She also held your child and rocked them for hours in the nursery, loving every minute of it. Her biggest joy was her grandchildren; her love for them was fierce, and she cherished every single minute with them. She will be deeply missed by all.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Clifford and Florence Moreau; her husband, Vernon Johnnie Jr.; her brother, Clifford Ray Moreau jr; and her daughter, Stephanie Johnnie.

She is survived by her daughters, Rachel Graffagnino and husband Paul, and Johnny Woodard and husband Jack; granddaughters, Christin Callahan, Megan Horner and husband James, Aaron Pancardo and husband Miguel, Page Epperly and husband Chad, Hannah Perry, and Sarah Perry; nephew "son" David Predmore and wife Maxine; and sister Constance Comeaux and husband Jeff. Her great-grandchildren, who affectionately called her Itty Bitty or Old Maw Maw, include Elena Pancardo, Kyler Pancardo, Isabella Alonzo, Bryce Alonzo, Aden Horner, Brenna Horner, Connor, Colin, Case, and Madilyn Epperly, and Oaklynn.

We know you are up in heaven dancing to your favorite music and will be dearly missed.

Cremation will be held under the direction of Claybar Funeral Home in Orange.

Ms Johnnie definitely took care of my baby. She happened to be the only girl born that night. She spoiled and rocked my baby girl. She had never forgotten her either. We ran into her often in Orangefield. We seen her for the last time at KDan’s and she still knew us and remembered, fondly taking care of my daughter. We love you Ms Johnnie . Your work is done, May you rest in peace.
