Elton T. Holmes, Sr., our beloved husband and father, died Thursday, June 19, 2008, in Longview.
Funeral services will be 9:00 a.m. Monday, June 23, 2008, in the chapel of Welch Funeral Home in Longview.
Graveside services will follow at 4:00 p.m. Monday at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens near Bridge City.
Born in Amite County, Mississippi on February 2, 1927, Mr. Holmes was the son of Jacob Baxter and Neva Eloise Tate Holmes.
He was a former resident of Bridge City and had lived in Longview for the past 10 years.
Mr. Holmes retired from DuPont Sabine River Works after 37 years of service, was a WWII Army Air Force Veteran and was a member of First Baptist Church in Bridge City.
Preceded in death by his first wife, Pat Holmes, he is survived by his wife, Sybil Holmes and her children and grandchildren; his children, Margaret E. Dunn of Dallas, Carla D. Lewis and her husband, Lloyd, of San Antonio, Shelly D. Riddle of Nederland, Elton T. Holmes, Jr. and his wife, Shellie, of Bridge City; sisters, Birdie E. Dement of Houston, Winnie P. Foreman of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; brothers, Calvin L. Holmes of Irving, Robert E. Holmes of Gladewater; eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
