Evelyn Rose Markby

December 12, 1919 — August 4, 2012

Evelyn Rose Callihan Markby was born to Lee and Era Callihan in Devers, TX on December 12, 1919 and joined those who were waiting in heaven on August 4, 2012. As a child she shared her life with 9 brothers and sisters. She later became a registered nurse at Hotel Deiu in Beaumont. Evelyn met Emmett Markby in 1946 and was married shortly after. She continued to nurse throughout her lifetime and was a devout member of the Hotel Dieu Nurses Association. Caring for those who needed her was her true gift. Love for church work was also most important to her. Being a servant of God for missions and peace through the United Methodist Women and Church Women United were where she gave herself to society. She gave her time to Sunday School teaching for 30 years and volunteered at Some other Place faithfully. Evelyn was a past member of McCabe Roberts Avenue Methodist Church and St. Paul's United Methodist Church.
Evelyn Rose Markby's presence was a gift given by God. Her kindness and ability to unconditionally love was a blessing to those who were able to share this life with her. Evelyn will be remembered and missed by many and greeted in heaven by many more. She is survived by her daughter, Mary Kay Prevost and her husband Gerry; son, John Markby and his wife Kristin; grandchildren, Charles Prevost, Alisha Kay Prevost, and Chad Markby and great-grandchildren Brennan William Markby, Ani Rose Prevost and Conrad Ray Adix.
A gathering of family and friends will be held Tuesday, August 7, 2012 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home and a celebration of Evelyn's life will be Wednesday, August 8, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at McCabe-Roberts Avenue Methodist church.
The family is grateful for those who cared for and about Mrs. Markby: River City Hospice, Susan Hawkins and all the staff at Summer Place Nursing Home. Special thanks to Ruby Nelson who so faithfully visited Evelyn and continued to nourish her throughout her illness with love and prayers.
