For as far back as I can remember I recall my father Greg and his best friend "Mr. Floyd" as I would call him even into my adult years, sitting at our dinning table till the early morning hours debating everything from politics to religion and sharing stories of their younger years. As a young child I wasn't interested in any of their conversations and would rather play with Elliott or Dana. As I grew older I became fond of eavesdropping on their discussions and while I couldn't tell you many specifics from their talks I will always remember the joy on both of their faces having such a good friend in one another. Floyd and his children became our extended family as we shared many holidays together, camping trips, and of course as my fathers "right hand" for all of our crawfish boils they made a great team producing some of the best crawfish you've ever had. Over the years I was able to witness first hand what true friendship means between Floyd and my dad. Floyd will always be a large part of my childhood I'm very fortunate for the time Floyd spent in my home and the many great memories we made with him.

For those who may not know, Mr. Floyd Purcell devoted his time as Santa for the past couple years here at the center. He not only wore the suit, but played the part to his fullest, bringing a gift for each child and taking time with each child. He had a sweet voice that calmed them down, while waiting for pictures or and listening to them tell what they wanted for Christmas. He always ending their time by saying “Remember Jesus loves you” We will miss him very much. God bless you and your Family. Little Cypress Baptist Church Learning Center Staff and Families

The person who taught me how to hit a baseball was my Uncle Floyd. I was never athletic and growing up with 3 brothers certainly had its challenges. They were always picking on me and so I learned very early on how to defend myself. One day I was standing in my grandpa's front yard, listening to the train go by and trying to learn how to bat. Uncle Floyd saw me and decided to come outside to reveal his secret. My brother Kyle was pitching. Uncle Floyd stood close behind me, leaned in real close to my ear, stared straight ahead at Kyle, and said in a serious manner, "Pretend that ball is your brother's face." And so that day I hit my first baseball.
