Dr. Frank Malloy Brown, aged 74, passed away on July 16, 2024, in Orange, Texas. Born on May 2, 1950, in Beaumont, Texas, Frank led an illustrious life marked by significant contributions to academia and a deep commitment to his family and passions.
Frank embarked on his educational journey at Allen Academy, followed by earning a Bachelor of Engineering from Vanderbilt University. He furthered his studies at Edinburgh University, where he obtained his Doctorate, laying the groundwork for his pioneering work in Artificial Intelligence. Throughout his career, Frank served as an Assistant Professor at the University of Texas at Austin and later as a Full Professor at the University of Kansas. His dedication to education was profound, often extending his knowledge and patience to those around him, both in professional and personal capacities.
Beyond his professional life, Frank was a loving husband and father, survived by his son, Brandon Curtis; daughter, Emma Shane; grandson, David Shane; and siblings, Molly and Ted Brown. He was preceded in death by his parents, E.W. Brown III and Betty Bennett Brown; his wife, Vicki Lynn Brown; and siblings, David and Gladys Brown.
Frank's personality was as vibrant as his career was distinguished. He was known for his witty and quirky humor, his passion for politics and world affairs, and his love for spirited debates, often punctuated with his favorite phrase, “What exactly does that have to do with the price of tea in China!” His interests were diverse, including a profound appreciation for military history, particularly the American Civil War, proving mathematical formulas, and geography.
Respected not only for his academic achievements, Frank was also a cherished member of his community, known for his readiness to offer counsel and share his extensive knowledge on various subjects. His home was a hub of learning and laughter, shared with his wife, children, and their nine beloved cats.
Services to honor Frank's life will be held at Claybar Funeral Home, located at 504 N Fifth St, Orange, Texas, 77630. Visitation is scheduled for 12:00 p.m., Saturday, July 27, 2024, followed by a service at 2:00 p.m. Interment will take place at Evergreen Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Be Intentional Dog Rescue, reflecting Frank's compassionate spirit.
