Fred Darrell Hryhorchuk, 83, of Deweyville, Texas, passed away on April 4, 2024, at Oakwood Manor in Vidor, Texas. 

 

Funeral services will be 3:00 p.m., Saturday, April 13, 2024, at Calvary Baptist Church in Deweyville. Officiating will be Reverend John Fortenberry. Burial will follow at Deweyville Cemetery in Deweyville.

 

Visitation will be from 1:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., Saturday, April 13, 2024, at Calvary Baptist Church in Deweyville.

 

Born in Deweyville, Texas, on May 19, 1940, he was the son of Fred Lewis Hryhorchuk and Jewel Tubbs Hryhorchuk. Fred's early years were spent working in the family grocery store before embarking on a remarkable career at Spencer Chemical in Orange. Over the course of the 38 years he was employed, he saw the business transition into Gulf Plastics, and finally Chevron within the Pilot Plant. He graduated from Deweyville High School where he also showcased his talent and passion for basketball Fred led a rich and fulfilling life outside of work. His love for building and racing hotrods led to him winning several trophies over the years. As a charter member and Deacon of Calvary Baptist Church in Deweyville, Fred dedicated his time and efforts towards the growth of the church community. He was instrumental in clearing the land for the church buildings, and he also helped to maintain them over the years. Fred enjoyed raising cattle, baling hay, hunting, fishing, and visiting Crazy Horse Mountain. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
 
 He is preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Jewel Hryhorchuk; and his brother, Larry Hryhorchuk.

 

He is survived by his loving wife of almost 58 years, Shirlene Cruse Hryhorchuk; his son, Derrek Hryhorchuk and wife, Kimberly of Houston; his grandchildren, Ashley Hryhorchuk of Houston, Brittney Hryhorchuk, currently in the Peace Corp in Peru, and Austin Hryhorchuk of College Station.

 

Serving as pallbearers will be Austin Hryhorchuk, Shane Hryhorchuk, Scotty Ward, Tommy Spears, Keith Ogden, and Glenn Stephenson. Honorary pallbearers will be Douglas McDaniel, Greg Thompson, Steve Henson, Donald Brockman, and J.R. Harden.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Calvary Baptist Church, P.O. Box 77 Deweyville, Texas 77614.
