Fred James Lane

July 29, 1921 — January 6, 2008

Fred James Lane, 86, of Beaumont, passed away at his home on Sunday, January 6, after a brief illness. A native of Lineville, Iowa, he was the elder son of Morris and Jennie Lane. Fred moved to Des Moines, Iowa in 1939 where he graduated from East High School. In 1940, Fred joined the Army Air Corps, which later became the Air Force, where he attained the rank of Master Sergeant. He served in the Korean War as a part of the 4th Fighter Interceptor Wing F.I.W. and remained active in the 4th FIW retirement group. Fred served at numerous U.S. Air Force bases including Tachikawa, Japan prior to his retirement in 1962.
After retirement from the military, Fred started a new career in banking at Beaumont State Bank where he was Assistant Vice-President. After 18 years at Beaumont State Bank, he retired from there but continued to stay active in the local banking industry. Fred held memberships in the Sales and Marketing Executives Club, Texas A&M club, and the Beaumont Coin Club. He was also a member of the South Park Baptist Church.
Preceded in death by his son, Beaumont Police Sergeant Mike Lane, he is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Virginia Lane; daughter Carol Lane of Houston, daughter Linda Lane Morris and husband Dr. Brock Morris of Waco and daughter-in-law, Renee Lane of Nederland; grandson Seth Morris of Waco, granddaughter Dr. Jenny Carl and husband Dr. Leighton Carl of Orlando, FL, grandson, Benjamin Lane of Nederland, and great-granddaughter Miriam Carl of Orlando.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 9, 2007, at 10:00 a.m. in the Claybar Kelley-Watkins Funeral Home Chapel with interment to follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, from 5:00 ? 8:00 p.m.
