Gayle Elaine Jackson Bland passed away peacefully at home on August 15, 2020.
Gayle was born on May 21, 1935 in Nashville, Tennessee. When she was in 1st grade, she moved to Seaford, Delaware with her parents, Rubye and Leo Jackson, when Leo took a job at DuPont in nearby Wilmington. In 1946 when Gayle was in 5th grade, her family moved to Orange where her father helped start up the newly built DuPont facility here. Gayle graduated from Orange Stark High School and went on to work in the lab at DuPont for several years. She married Alton Owen and moved to Mauriceville in 1957 where their son, Todd, was born in 1959. She later married Walter “Tuny” Bland and cared for him until his passing in 2017.
Gayle was greatly loved and will be deeply missed by her family and friends. She will be remembered for her sweetness, kindness and generosity toward others, especially Todd and his family, her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and the many dogs and cats she took in and cared for over the years.
Gayle is survived by her son, Todd Owen, his wife Debbie, and grandson Kyle of Albuquerque, New Mexico; and granddaughter Rebecca Evans, her husband Jeremy, and great-grandchildren Leah, Nathaniel and Matthew of Tempe, Arizona.
A graveside service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Thursday, August 20, 2020, at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Orange, Texas. Officiating will be Randy Miller, chaplain of Harbor Hospice in Beaumont.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to the Humane Society of Southeast Texas.
